Orchid Guesthouse
Orchid Guesthouse is located on Soi San Sabai, Patong Beach.(Patong
Map 12)
I paid 700 Baht per night low season for a room without window. The room was clean
and sterile with a mini bar and TV. The hotel is tiled throughout which makes it
surprisingly noisy and the staff change at about 07:00 each morning would wake me
up. I moved to a room with a window, which was a good size for 900 Baht per night,
but the room still suffered from corridor noise. The hotel has a good restaurant
and is only 2 minutes from the nightlife but is in a quite location. The hotel is
guest friendly.
Ali Baba
Ali Baba is an Indian/Middle Eastern restaurant located on Ruamjai Road(Patong
Map 77)
I ordered the chicken masala at 200 Baht and plain rice and nairn bread at 25 Baht
each. The curry was bland and small in portion size. The meal was not worth the
money and I cannot see myself eating here again.
Da Mario
Da Mario is an Italian restaurant located on Soi Patong Resort, Patong Beach.(Patong Map 76)
I had the Lasagne cost 260 Baht. Good sized portion, piping hot and absolutely delicious,
meal came with some complimentary bread and freshly grated parimsan. The restaurant
is air conditioned with Italian music and additional seating outside.
Dubai
Dubai restaurant is an Indian/Middle Eastern restaurant located on Rat-U-Tit Road.(Patong Map 79)
I tried Chicken Masala the dish was 180 Baht and eaten with plain rice and a nairn
bread these were 30 and 35 Baht each. I found the main course to be too sweet for
my taste and as I have eaten this dish on two occasions I will have to assume the
chef likes to add a little too much sugar, but overall the meal and portion size
was good. The restaurant has air-conditioned and outside seating. They also provide
hubble-bubble pipes for the more adventurous.
English Fish & Chips
English Fish & Chips is an English restaurant located on Rat-U-Tit Road.(Patong
Map 78)
I ate fish and chips at a cost of 180 Baht I wanted mushy peas but they were un-available
at 20 Baht. The fish had crispy batter and the chips were good but overall the meal
was let down by a small portion size. The restaurant has outside seating only and
is clustered with a number of other stall type restaurants.
Mishkas
Mishkas is an Israeli/Middle Eastern restaurant located on Rat-U-Tit Road.(Patong
Map 80)
I have tried chicken livers at 150 Baht the meal was served with French fries and
a chopped salad the meal was very good in quality and portion size. I have also
tried the chicken shwarma at 150 Baht that was not so good. This meal was also served
with French fries and chopped salad but the chicken shwarma tasted like stir-fried
chicken Thai style and not chicken shwarma Middle Eastern style. Lastly I have tried
he humus at 80 Baht and found it very good, the humus is served with olive oil,
chili dip and two good-sized breads.
Navrang Mahal
Navrang Mahal is an Indian restaurant on Soi Patong Resort, Patong Beach.(Patong
Map 75)
I had Chicken Curry 200 Baht, plain rice 20 Baht and a nairn bread 30 Baht. The
curry and rice come in good sized portions but the nairn bread was a bit small and
was not as the menu claimed freshly baked, but the meal as a whole tasted great.
The restaurant is air conditioned with Indian TV and some seats outside.
Simon's Fish & Chips
Simon's Fish & Chips is an English restaurant on Rat-U-Tht road (Patong
Map 82)
The fish comes in three types local 180 Baht, small cod 180, large cod 240. If you
want hand cut chips instead of french fries it is an additional 30 Baht. All three
fish meals are of a good quality and quantity but charging an additional 30 Baht
for hand cut chips seems excessive because the french fries are also good. Additional
traditional items such as mushy peas, gherkins, bread and butter etc. can be added
for 25 Baht upwards. One word of warning would be the apple pie for 100 Baht, you
will not be receiving trditional apple pie here, it will be a small individual pie
with a few tiny scoops of ice cream and totaly overcharged. The seating is outside
only.
The Islander
The Islander is an English restaurant on Soi Patong Resort, Patong Beach.(Patong
Map 16)
I had Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding cost 310 Baht. At first I thought this was
a bit expensive until I saw the portion size, the meal was huge with boiled and
roast potatoes, carrots and cauliflower and a large boat of gravy, the meal tasted
great and was so big I could not finish it. The restaurant is not air conditioned
and usualy has the TV on as pub style entertainment.
